The 22nd annual Collision All Star Games returned after a two year COVID-19 shutdown with a vengeance as South Pasadena’s Allysan Tse and Corona Centennial’s Donavon Dent earned MVP performances in a thrilling Southern Section sweep at El Camino College on April 30.

Tse, a CIF-Southern Section D-2 honoree scored 18 convincing points in a balanced performance including a critical 7 points in the third quarter when the Southern Section outscored the City 25-16 to put the game away enroute to a 87-73 victory to improved to 19-3 in the series.

She led a balance scoring attack that included 15 points from Mater Dei’s Soleil Montrose, 11 from Kylee Edger of Hesperia and 12 from Orange Lutheran’s Ashari Cassell.

Rolling Hills Prep Tatum Tamashiro was saluted as the Mary & Albert “Cap” Lavin Scholar Athlete for the girl with the highest GPA at 4.1.

Lynwood’s Ellis Barefield served as the head coach for the winning squad and was assisted by Orange Lutheran’s Lindsay Charity who will pilot the girls Southern Section team in 2023.

Etiwanda’s Talia Garner chipped in with 9 points, while Brittany Ishida of North Torrance and Chloe McNellie of Twentynine Palms added 8 apiece. El Camino Real’s City D1 Player of the Year Audrey Quintana led all scorers in both girls and boys game with 28, while City Open Division POY Janna Holley finished with 17 and Janelly Portillo of Palisades closed out with 12 in a losing effort. Palisade’s Adam Levine coached the City girls.

Meanwhile, New Mexico bound Dent proved once and for all why he was the best high school player in the California by erasing any City Section hopes after they led 42-40 at halftime. Dent exploded for 14 of his team high 18 points close out a brilliant high school career to add another victory and more hardware to his resume.

Four players scored in double figures for coach Josh Giles Southern outfit including 16 by St. John Bosco’s Christian Estrada, 14 from Minnesota bound Jaden Henley of Colony and 12 from Dent’s Centennial teammate Ramsey Huff. Jeremy Dent-Smith of Serra (Gardena) added 9 and was selected as the Mary & Albert “Cap” Lavin Scholar Athlete for his 4.1 GPA. New Mexico bound and Etiwanda standout Quinton Webb finished with 9 points as the Southern Section held on for a 92-88 victory to improve to 12-10 on the series.

City co-POY’s Kalib LaCount of King Drew (Eastern Carolina) and Fairfax’ Tyler Bey led the City with 17 points each for City coach Lloyd Webster of King Drew. Grant’s D1 POY Jeremiah Windham tallied 14.

Former Pasadena La Salle and Los Angeles Price coach Michael Lynch was honored with the Collision Jim Harrick Lifetime Achievement Award prior to the boys game.

Lynch coached for 26 years between the two schools compiling 626 wins won 10 Southern Section championships and eight state titles while sending 36 players to college and the NBA including Collision alumni Allen Crabbe.
