It has been two years since the Collision All Star Games last staged its showcase which features outstanding basketball players representing the CIF Southern Section versus the CIF Los Angeles City Section.

The last event held in 2019 at Harbor College saw the City Boys team dominate the Southern Section 112-79 for the second year in a row to close the gap in the series to 11-10, setting up a high stakes showdown on April 30, 2022 when Collision returns to El Camino College for the eighth time.

No other site has hosted Collision as often as El Camino and it is only appropriate that Collision will be the first outside event to be held at the Torrance campus sparkling new gymnasium.

“I have always considered El Camino our home because we’ve played so many great games there and I turned down two other facilities to be return, “said Collision Founder Kenneth Miller.

The 22nd installment will feature the most successful prep coach in California when Corona Centennial’s Josh Giles pilots the Southern Section boy’s squad.

Giles led the Huskies to a remarkable 33-1 record enroute to capturing Open Division sectional and state titles this season.

During his illustrious 19 year career at Centennial, Giles has a record of 398-132 (League Record 152-36) (7 Seasons with 27 wins or more); 6 Undefeated League Seasons; 14 League Championships (14x League Coach of the Year); 2007, 2014 and 2020 Riverside County Coach of the Year; 2007, 2011 and 2020 CIF Coach of the Year; 2007 CIF Champions.

He joins an elite list of high school coaches that have graced the Collision sidelines including the likes of Bishop Montgomery’s Doug Mitchell, Rollings Hills Prep Harvey Kitani, the late Dwan Hurt of Gardena Serra, Westchester’s Ed Azzam, Taft’s Derrick Taylor to name a few.

Giles will also bring along with him his New Mexico bound guard and co- Open Division Player of the Year Donavon Dent who will suit up for the Southern boys.

Meanwhile, Giles will be confronted by King Drew’s rising star among the coaching ranks in Lloyd Webster who has elevated Drew to among the top teams in the City Section during his five year reign.

Like Giles, Webster will bring his top gun in Kalib LaCount who was selected City co-Open Player of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to the Open Division Finals in ’22.

The boy’s game will tip at 6p.m. and will be preceded by the girl’s game at 4p.m. Palisades championship winning coach Adam Levine will lead the City Girls team will Lynwood’s exceptional pilot Ellis Barfield will coach the girls Southern Section team.

Since Barfield, a former Lynwood basketball player, took over in 1992, the Knights have captured 10 sectional titles, six regional, and five state championships.

Barfield has also produced two Collision MVP’s Hazel Woods in 2001 Kameca Simmons in 2003. Only Gardena Serra has produced more girl MVP’s with three.
